Joan Sonnabend; dealer promoted art of others

Known in Boston art circles for her keen eye and Newbury Street galleries, Joan Sonnabend and her late husband, Roger, who was executive chairman of Sonesta International Hotels Corp., displayed artists’ work in the company’s hotels. “Joan was a wonderful, elegant, and intelligent person, with the greatest taste, and set the highest standard for the works of art that were in her life,’’ said Malcolm Rogers, director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. “She influenced a whole generation of Boston collectors of contemporary art.’’
