Laurie Schwartz Naparstek, 52; promoted compassionate health care

Laurie Schwartz Naparstek was a founder and board member of the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare, created in 1994 just before her brother Ken Schwartz died of cancer. The center offers healthcare providers regular opportunities to openly talk about social and emotional issues they deal with in the course of caring for patients. Dr. Naparstek died at 52 in early December, a month after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
