Richard Yarde, virtuoso with watercolor brush and in classroom

Working in watercolors since his mother bought his first paint box when he was a child, Richard Yarde mastered an unforgiving medium many artists avoid, and did so using an uncommonly large scale, with some paintings measuring 10 feet by 10 feet or larger. “His handling is virtuosic, his colors dazzling,’’ Globe art critic Christine Temin once wrote. “He has become one of the great American watercolorists of the 20th century, as much a master of the medium as Homer was in the 19th.’’
