Marilyn Barron, world traveler who aided mental health patients

Marilyn Barron spent most of her career working for the state Department of Mental Health and the Family Service Association of Greater Boston, but made time for trips to far-flung locations, priding herself on visiting before they became common destinations on tourist itineraries. “She used to say, ‘I was there long before the hordes of tourists. I treasure those memories,’ ’’ said her cousin Eleanor Henkoff. Mrs. Barron also volunteered extensively in libraries, hospitals, and at historic sites.
