Walt Sanders, 81, scrupulous, caring WBZ reporter

Walt Sanders spent 27 years at WBZ-TV and was one of the first black TV reporters in Boston, covering City Hall and education during the years of busing and desegregation. “There were people who fanned the flames and there were healers,’’ said former Boston mayor Raymond L. Flynn. “Walt was one of the steady voices who brought reason to the discussion.’’ Sarah-Ann Shaw, a former WBZ colleague, said that “people trusted Walt. They knew he was a person who could be trusted to tell their stories correctly.’’
