Robert Thayer, 77; minister was well suited to the task

Retirement proved not to be what the Rev. Robert Thayer was seeking, so at 70 he returned to the pulpit as minister of the Universalist Unitarian Church of Brockton. “I just cannot give up this wonderful profession, because it does enrich others, and the practice continually challenges and enriches me,’’ he wrote several years ago for the 50th anniversary report of his Harvard class. For most of the past five decades he served churches in Framingham, Medfield, Fairhaven, and Brockton.
