Oreste Valsangiacomo, 92, representative in Vermont

BARRE, Vt. — Oreste ­Valsangiacomo Sr., a former Vermont lawmaker from Barre, died Friday, the same week his wife passed away. He was 92.

His wife, Helen, died at 91.

Mr. Valsangiacomo, a Democrat, served in the Vermont House of Representatives from 1967 to 1974 and 1977-2000.

His son, Oreste ‘‘Rusty’’ ­Valsangiacomo Jr., told the Times Argus that his father’s ‘‘number one love was the ­Army, and then politics.’’

Mr. Valsangiacomo was wounded in Germany in 1944 and returned to action in 1945. After the war, he became battalion commander in the National Guard. He served in Germany during the Korean War. He earned three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart for his service.
