John Rovick, children’s TV show host; at 93

LOS ANGELES — As “Sheriff John,’' John Rovick was the beloved host of a children’s cartoon show in Los Angeles throughout the 1950s and ’60s.

For nearly two decades, Mr. Rovick appeared on the daily ‘‘Cartoon Time’’ show, which earned him an Emmy for outstanding children’s program.


Mr. Rovick died Saturday in Boise, Idaho, after a brief illness, according to his former station, KTTV-TV. He was 93.

Mr. Rovick created the sheriff persona because of his interest in law enforcement. He served in World War II as a radio gunner for the Army Air Forces.

A native of Dayton, Ohio, Mr. Rovick leaves his wife and two daughters.
