Local man faces multiple charges

A Dracut man will appear in court Jan. 12 for a pretrial conference following his arrest on charges of aggravated assault and battery, and failure to stop for police. The charges stem from a Dec. 11 incident during which Anthony Balakin, 37, allegedly shoved his pregnant girlfriend during an argument, then got into his car and refused to stop for police when they arrived in response to her 911 call. Balakin was held on $2,500 cash bail and pleaded not guilty to the charges. His girlfriend told police she believed he was under the influence of cocaine, and that he was demanding her cash and credit cards, which she refused to give him.
