Computer server to be shared

Two-year arrangement expected to save money

The City of Melrose and the town of Essex have signed a two-year agreement to share a computer server, a first step toward regionalizing information technology to help each community save costs and improve services. Essex will pay Melrose $6,500 per year to manage its database server, which stores written communications, spreadsheets, and other town documents. The agreement could be one of the first IT regionalization pacts in the state.
