Northern Essex Community College is seeking submissions for its fourth peace poetry contest. Students in grades K-12, from public and private schools, are invited to submit an original poem and artwork on the subject of peace. The deadline for submission is March 15. Some 80 poems and accompanying art will be published in a small book this spring. Selected entrants also will be invited to take part in a poetry reading, 6 to 8:30 p.m. on May 4 in the David Hartleb Technology Center on the college’s Haverhill campus. The contest was conceived by Paul G. Saint-Amand, a Northern Essex associate professor of English and a Vietnam veteran committed to peace. Send entries to peacepoetry@necc.mass.edu or NECC Peace Poetry Contest, 100 Elliot St., Spurk 317H, Haverhill MA 01830. Contact Saint-Amand at 978-556-3307 or psaintamand@necc.mass.edu. - Brenda J.
