Commended by governor

►Army Sergeant John Giasullo Jr. (inset), son of Karen Kennedy, stepson of Jason Kennedy, and brother of Brooke Kennedy, all of Billerica. The 24-year-old was awarded the Silver Star in 2010 for his actions as a medic in 2008 when a bomb hit a convoy vehicle during a patrol in Afghanistan. While under attack, Giasullo treated casualties, returned enemy fire, and refused treatment for his own injuries. His actions saved the lives of four Afghan National Army soldiers. During a recent ceremony, he was commended by Governor Deval Patrick on behalf of the Commonwealth.
