Property taxes going up

The City Council has accepted the assessor’s recommendation for property tax rates for fiscal 2012, which ends June 30. The new residential tax rate is $12.03 per $1,000 of assessed value, while the commercial, industrial, and personal property tax rate is $23.72 per $1,000 of assessed value. In the recent past, the owner of the average single-family home in Medford sees his or her tax bill increase about $150 per year. This fiscal year is no exception; the tax bill for the average single-family home valued at $347,400 will rise about $156, to $4,179.
