Alerts to be expanded

Assistant town manager and finance director Bob LeLacheur has announced that the Reading Community Alerts system will be expanded within the next month to include eight nonemergency topics. The system is currently used to communicate information about local emergencies. In the coming weeks, the system also will offer system subscribers the opportunity to stay abreast of topics ranging from town news and community events and public health bulletins to elder services and recreation. The town introduced the Reading Community Alerts system over the summer. To date, more than 1,000 people have subscribed. To register, visit the town website at readingma.gov and click on the red “RCA: Community Alerts” link on the homepage. - Brenda J. Buote
