Liacos to lead council again

Eleven years after he served as president of the City Council, James K. Liacos is assuming the leadership role again. The City Council last Monday elected Liacos to serve as president for the coming year. The 9-0 vote - with one member absent and Liacos voting present - came at a council reorganization meeting following the city’s inauguration. A former 20-year member of the School Committee, Liacos was reelected last November to his seventh term as a councilor at large. “I’m very excited to be working with a new mayor, Ted Bettencourt. I think we really do have a mayor and a council that want to move the city forward,” said Liacos, a professor and chairman of the horticultural department at North Shore Community College. At its reorganization meeting, the School Committee chose Thomas Rosignoll to serve as its vice chairman. Bettencourt, who took office Monday, chairs the School Committee by virtue of his position. - John Laidler
