Local election season begins

Nomination papers for this spring’s election are available in the town clerk’s office. Anyone interested in running for a board or commission seat or in serving as a Town Meeting representative may pick up the papers between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays. The completed papers must be submitted by 5 p.m. Feb. 27 to the Board of Registrars. Individuals who are filing papers for a townwide office, such as the Board of Selectmen, must secure certifiable signatures from at least 50 registered voters; those running for Town Meeting must collect at least 10 signatures. Due to redistricting, all of the Town Meeting seats will be on the ballot; even incumbents with terms that are not due to expire must run for reelection if they wish to remain in office. Other positions up for grabs this spring include seats on the Board of Selectmen, School Committee, and Planning Board. For more information, call 978-671-0924.
