Options for Fuller School site

The city has posted the recently released Fuller School Site Reuse Study on its website, www.gloucester-ma.gov. The study, prepared by Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc. and Winter Street Architects, offers four scenarios to reuse the former school, which closed in 2008. The alternatives are to create a 180,000-square-foot, two-building commercial office development on the 13.3-acre site; demolish the old school, and replace it with several retail buildings; build a commercial office development and a separate police and fire operations facility; or build a new YMCA and the shared public safety facility. Mayor Carolyn Kirk has endorsed building the public safety facility on the site. The study recommends that the city conduct a market study and an assessment of the four proposed reuses. - Steven Rosenberg
