Regional service agreement explored

The Board of Selectmen has voted to meet with local police to discuss the possibility of sharing resources with neighboring towns to save costs. At a recent board meeting, Beverly Woods, executive director of the Northern Middlesex Council of Governments, quoted a recent survey that estimated Dracut could potentially save hundreds of thousands of dollars by moving from a town-based emergency dispatch system to a regional one. As part of the proposed merger, Dracut would consolidate resources with some or all of the area communities within the council, which include Billerica, Chelmsford, Dunstable, Lowell, Pepperell, Tewksbury, Tyngsborough, and Westford.
