Meeting money matters

A proposed $80,000 appropriation to fund a study on possible relocation of the town’s highway garage is among the items coming before Town Meeting, which convenes tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The meeting will also consider spending requests of $481,430 for the latest phase of a program to reduce inflow and infiltration of storm water into the sewer system; $100,000 to complete work on the development of a new recreation area at the Mary P.C. Cummings Estate; $30,000 to fund a negotiated contract with the firefighters’ union; $15,000 for improvements to the town website; $75,000 to develop a plan for updating the town’s technology; and $10,000 to study the possible upgrade or replacement of the fire station on Terrace Hall Avenue. In other business, the meeting will consider a proposed bylaw change to increase fines for violating dog licensing rules. It will also take up zoning amendments to establish new rules governing the activity of biotechnology companies in town, and to revise the Planned Development District bylaw. Also tomorrow, the town clerk’s office is holding a special information night for potential candidates in the April 14 annual town election. From 4:30 to 7 p.m., residents are invited to stop by the clerk’s office to seek information about running or to pick up nomination papers. - John Laidler
