New precinct opens Town Meeting seats

The town is seeking residents interested in running for the 18 new Town Meeting seats being created because of the addition of a new voting precinct this year. Precinct 7 is being established as a result of the 7.1 percent increase in the town’s population, from 22,876 in 2000 to 24,498 in the 2010 census. Town clerk Amy E. Warfield is encouraging residents in the precinct to step forward and run for the seats, which will be filled at the April 14 town election. Anyone who would like to determine if their address is within the new precinct can call the clerk’s office at 781-270-1660 or go to burlington.org. The clerk’s office on Feb. 13 is holding its second special information night for potential candidates in the election. From 4 to 7 p.m., residents are invited to stop by the office to seek information about running or to pick up nomination papers. Prospective candidates for townwide office and nonincumbents for Town Meeting seats have until Feb. 23 to take out nomination papers and the deadline to return them is Feb. 27. Incumbent Town Meeting members who want to run again must notify the clerk’s office by Feb. 21. - John Laidler
