Affordable complex going solar
An affordable housing complex plans to carry out a solar energy project with the help of a recent $100,000 grant. The project calls for installation of a solar hot air system at the 283-unit Salem Heights rental development on Pope Street. The new system will reduce natural gas consumption by using solar energy to heat the air introduced as part of normal building ventilation. Preservation of Affordable Housing, the Boston-based nonprofit owner of Salem Heights, was awarded the money through TD Charitable Foundation’s Housing for Everyone grant competition. Salem Heights consists of two high-rise buildings connected by a single-story lobby.
