Fund-raiser scheduled

Residents can take part in a community event to support local families in need. People Helping People is selling tickets to a Feb. 26 wine tasting fund-raiser hosted by Café Escadrille, 26 Cambridge St. The event, scheduled for 2-5 p.m., will include appetizers, raffles, and auctions, in addition to the wine tasting. The nonprofit People Helping People operates the Burlington Community Food Pantry, which provides nonperishable staples as well as meat, eggs, cheese, and produce twice a month to income-eligible households from its location at 10 St. Mark’s Road. In 2011, the pantry distributed some 100,000 pounds of food. It also has programs that provide free Thanksgiving meals and holiday gifts for children. About 180 families received Thanksgiving meals last year, and 150 children received gifts. Tickets to the Feb. 26 event are $40. For tickets or information, contact Janet Sullivan Fitzgerald at 781-244-9519 or sullivanfh@comcast.net. - John Laidler
