28-year police veteran retires

A veteran police officer is moving on. Edward Gibbons recently retired after 28 years with the Police Department. Hired in October 1983, Gibbons was assigned to the patrol division during all his years with the department. “Eddie has been a dedicated professional, and his presence will be missed,” Police Chief Steven Mazzie said. Meanwhile, the board of aldermen unanimously confirmed Mayor Carlo DeMaria Jr.’s appointment of Patrick Cassidy as a patrol officer. Cassidy served for about five years as a Northeastern University campus police officer, and recently completed his recruit training at a Massachusetts police academy. - John Laidler
