Wanted: town administrator

The town is now accepting resumes for the position of town administrator. Burlington began advertising for the job last week, according to Joanne Faust, the town’s director of human resources. She said the town had originally planned to begin running the ads in January, but decided to wait several weeks to give its search consultant time to create a profile of Burlington and of the position for prospective applicants to review. The profile has been posted on the website of the consultant, the Edward J. Collins Center for Public Management at the University of Massachusetts Boston (www.collinscenter.umb.edu). The notion, said Faust, was to provide potential candidates “as much information as possible about Burlington and the job so they can decide if it’s a position they want to apply for.” Because of the delay in advertising the job, the deadline to apply was extended to Feb. 24. Town administrator Robert Mercier announced last October that he is retiring at the end of May. Faust said the consultant will screen applications and forward those meeting qualifications to a seven-member search committee appointed by selectmen. That search panel will conduct interviews and recommend finalists to the selectmen. - John Laidler
