Downtown plan to improve traffic

Town officials are considering improvements to the town center. The Board of Selectmen voted earlier this month to send one of two proposals from BETA Group Inc. to the Traffic Management Committee for review. The public will also have an opportunity to voice their opinions on the plan, which calls for additional parking along the common, a contiguous sidewalk along Boston Road from the O’Connor Plaza to the Billerica Mall, and upgrades to Boston Road, River, and Cummings streets. The goal is to improve traffic flow and make the area more pedestrian friendly. -Brenda Buote
