School district audit finds $1.6m

With high tax rates and frequent Proposition 2 ½ override requests, money is often an issue for the towns in the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District. After bringing in a new auditing firm, and asking for a cash audit, the district found approximately $1.6 million in previously-unaccounted for funds at the end of fiscal year 2011. As a result, the district plans to implement changes in its accounting system.
