Plaza burning canceled

The Fire Department has announced it will not oversee a controlled burn of the Amherst Plaza. The department announced last month that it planned to burn the remaining buildings at the shopping mall on Route 101A that had been the site of a multiple-alarm fire in 2008. The burn has been canceled because asbestos was found in the remaining buildings. The department will still use the mall for training purposes. - Tom Long
