Calling all artists for festival

Organizers of the Salem Arts Festival are recruiting artists of all mediums to exhibit and perform in this year’s festival, scheduled for June 1-3. Now in its fourth season, the festival is a local celebration of the arts, including painting, photography, sculpture, dance, music, writing, film, new media, theater, poetry, and culinary arts. The event, held at various venues in the city, is designed to promote arts in the downtown by giving local artists a chance to display and present their work. The 2012 festival will consist of a juried gallery visual arts show in Old Town Hall; dance and other performances on an outdoor stage at the East India fountain downtown; indoor performances in Old Town Hall; and a juried street fair on the Essex Street pedestrian Mall and Derby Square, where artists will have the opportunity to sell their work. The festival, which drew about 4,000 people in each of the last two years, is organized by Salem Main Streets with help from other local organizations. Applications from artists interested in taking part in this year’s festival should be submitted by March 31 through www.salemartsfestival.com. For more information, contact Jennifer Bell at jennifer@salemmainstreets.org or 978-744-0004, ext. 15.
