Mayor joins insurance board

Mayor Robert J. Dolan is a new member of the Group Insurance Commission, a 15-member state panel that governs public employee health care in Massachusetts. Dolan is one of two new commissioners appointed by Governor Deval Patrick. Dolan, mayor since 2002, will fill the Massachusetts Municipal Association seat on the commission previously held by Richard Kelliher, former town administrator in Brookline. The municipal association advocated for state legislators to pass a health care law making it easier for cities and towns to join the state health care program to save costs. Melrose joined the GIC in 2009. - Kathy McCabe
