Resident pushes redesign for license plates

Ten years after Gary P. Richard offered a way to make vehicle registration plates easier to remember, the Danvers resident’s plan is gaining new attention. Prompted by several high-profile cases of child abduction, Richard proposed that symbols such as stars and triangles be included on the plates so that witnesses to crimes could more readily identify them. Recently the plan has gained support from some key law enforcement groups and is getting a close look by a legislative panel.
