Articles cover new DPW yard

A proposal to relocate the town’s Department of Public Works yard is being readied for Town Meeting on April 30. Selectmen are expected to vote in the next two weeks to include three warrant articles relating to the yard project. Voters would be asked to approve spending $3.5 million to purchase 15.2 acres at 5 Campanelli Drive, and $250,000 for about 1.5 acres of private residential property on River Road adjacent to the Campanelli Drive site, and to set the project’s total price tag, including the land purchases, and design and construction costs, at $18.5 million, said Rick Feldman, chairman of the Town Yard Task Force. The River Road property would be used to house equipment and potentially for expansion, Feldman said. The DPW’s 3-acre facility on Lewis Street, built in 1965, is too small to house all of its operations and has structural problems.
