Forum on underage drinking

Students from Chelsea High School and other community members are invited to a meeting on preventing underage drinking and drug use in the city. It will be held Wednesday from 3-5 p.m. in Chelsea High School’s main gym. The event will feature a performance by the Improbable Players, a nonprofit theater group that presents dramatic plays to schools and community groups focused on preventing underage alcohol and drug abuse. There will also be musical and dramatic performances by young people on that topic. The event will include remarks by city officials, including City Manager Jay Ash and City Council president Leo Robinson. The free public meeting is being organized by Chelsea Mobilizing for Change Coalition in collaboration with the city and its public schools, the REACH after-school program, and John’s Pizza, which is corporate sponsor. Part of the cost is being covered through a grant from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. - John Laidler
