Ames Hill estate’s fate uncertain

The fate of Ames Hill Castle, a fieldstone estate that dates to the turn of the 20th century and has for more than two decades housed illegal apartments, may finally be decided in the coming months. The Tewksbury Historic Commission voted unanimously on Monday to designate the castle a “preferably preserved’ site, delaying its demolition for nine months. In the interim, the town hopes to work with owner John D. Sullivan and find an alternative to razing the historic structure.
