Outdoor market to open

The city is gearing for the start of a second season of its outdoor farmers’ market, set to begin at Spence Farm on June 10. The market will be open every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Oct. 23, offering fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms as well as locally produced items such as grass-fed beef, seafood, cheese, baked goods, and handmade items from artisans. Even as preparations continue, the winter market established last November continues to operate in the barn at the farm every other Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through May 13. The Agricultural Advisory Committee, which runs the markets, is looking for farmers and other vendors for the outdoor season. The committee also is encouraging residents to make use of a new half-mile walking path that was recently created around the property. In 2010, Woburn acquired the Wyman Street farm from the Spence family, which it plans to maintain for agricultural uses. - John Laidler
