DiSalvo wins moderator race

Former School Committee member Mark S. DiSalvo was elected town moderator in a hotly contested race in Tuesday’s annual town election. DiSalvo captured 1,520 votes, besting challengers Francis Philip MacMillan Jr., who got 1,077 votes, and Ramsey A. Bahrawy, who got 432. DiSalvo succeeds Charles Salisbury, who did not seek reelection after serving in the position for 21 years. In the contested School Committee race, voters reelected Laurie A. Burzlaff, with 1,818 votes. The other open seat on the School Committee went to Andrew P. McDevitt, with 1,548 votes. George Vozeolas got 989 votes. In the contest for two open seats on the Board of Selectmen, voters reelected Bill Gordon, with 2,017 votes, but the top vote-getter was Richard M. Vaillancourt, who captured 2,173 votes. Joe Edward Smith, the third and final contestant in the selectmen race, got 645 votes. Seventeen percent of the town’s 18,340 registered voters went to the polls, according to the town clerk’s office. -Brenda J. Buote
