Warning on protection plan

The Department of Public Services has issued an advisory regarding a recent mailing offering a water line replacement insurance program. The mailing included details about a protection program that would shield homeowners from unexpected repair bills for $4.99 per month, $14.97 per quarter, or $59.88 per year. Town officials would like to remind residents that the city’s Water Division is responsible for repairs to the water line from the main in the street to the curb box, which is usually located at the sidewalk. Town officials also want to reassure residents that the water division will respond to calls within one hour, 24 hours a day, seven days per week, and said contractors who perform any type of excavation within the city limits must be licensed and bonded with the city. To read the advisory, visit cityofnewburyport.com and click on “news and announcements” from the homepage. For more information, contact Dan Lynch, the city’s water distribution system manager, at 978-465-4467.
