Talent show to aid Belize effort

A local student organization is holding a talent show at the high next school Thursday to benefit its planned humanitarian aid trip to Belize this summer. The World School was created in 2008 by three area students following trips they took to a Mexican village. Appalled by the conditions of the schools they saw, the students decided to form a group that would send young people from this area to help with schools in impoverished nations. The group has since become a club at Burlington High School, though participants on its aid missions need not be students at the school. This year, five young people, accompanied by three adults, will be in Belize from June 16-26, performing such work as helping design new playground structures, and providing sports, health, reading, and writing clinics. Thursday’s talent show, scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Fogelberg Performing Arts Center, will feature vocal, dance, improvisation, and rock band performances by Burlington students. Tickets are $8, or $6 for students and senior citizens, and can be purchased at the door or by calling 781-272-9724.
