Hazardous waste collection Saturday

The town is holding its spring household hazardous-waste collection day from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. Residents can drop off hazardous waste items in the parking lot at the Francis Wyman Elementary School, 41 Terrace Hall Ave. The collection is for Burlington residents only. There is no charge for disposal. Among the items that will be accepted are full aerosol cans; automotive products such as oil and brake fluid; fluorescent light bulbs; products containing mercury; oil-based paints and paint thinners; pesticides; pool chemicals; and propane tanks. Materials that will not be accepted include televisions and computer equipment; alkaline batteries; biological waste; construction materials; explosives; radioactive materials; syringes; tires; and latex paint. The town holds household hazardous waste days twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. For more information, go to www.burlington.org. - John Laidler
