Demolition delay may expand

Annual Town Meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the high school auditorium on Skillings Road. Town Meeting members will consider 34 articles, including a proposal that would modify the town’s demolition delay bylaw. Article 2 on the warrant would make every property constructed “during or before 1945” subject to the bylaw, giving the town’s Historical Commission the right to hold public hearings and possibly delay the demolition of the buildings for up to 12 months. Currently, there are about 700 properties protected by the bylaw. If the proposed amendment is passed by a majority vote, the number of protected properties would balloon to nearly 3,400. - Brenda J.
