Earth Day recycling weekend

The Department of Public Works is inviting residents to take part in an Earth Day recycling weekend next Saturday and Sunday. The event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days at the Elm Street parking lot, is an opportunity to recycle items that are not accepted curbside. Residents can bring bagged clothing, shoes, purses, linens, and stuffed animals and toys for the Big Brother Big Sister Foundation. XTechnology Global will collect electronic equipment, including televisions and computer monitors, with fees charged for some of the items. Got Books will collect books, DVDs, CDs, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, audio books, and records. JRM will shred up to two boxes of personal papers for free, and additional boxes for $5 each. JRM will donate all its proceeds, and XTechnology Global half its proceeds, to the Danvers Community Council, a local organization that helps people in need. The town will also be selling discounted rain barrels and compost bins, and handing out brochures on recycling, water conservation, and responsible landscaping. For more information, go to the DPW page at danvers.govoffice.com or call Gail Bernard at 978-777-0001, ext. 3014.
