Park improvements

The city is inviting residents to a public meeting on renovations to Splaine Park at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on the third floor of the City Hall Annex, 120 Washington St. Splaine Park is located near the corner of Boston and Essex streets, behind the CVS pharmacy. The city is preparing to undertake the renovations through a $421,000 state grant it was awarded in January and $217,000 in city funds. The project, targeted to begin early this summer, calls for enhancing the park entrances, rehabilitating the baseball field, replacing playground equipment, and installing community garden plots. The meeting is an opportunity to provide input on the design of the project, which is being developed by a landscape architectural firm.
