Playground upgrade May 19

Approximately 50 volunteers from Pepsi will be joining town residents and employees in a community build event to construct a new playground at Daw Park. Winthrop was one of 12 communities in New England selected to benefit this year from the Pepsi Supports Surrounding Towns program, an initiative in which employees and their families volunteer their time on a local community project. The Winthrop project, scheduled for May 19, involves the installation of new play structures in Daw Park on Veterans Road adjacent to Lewis Lake. The new equipment will replace play structures that were more than 50 years old previously removed by the town. The volunteers also will be installing new fencing around the playground perimeter. Peter Lombardi, the town’s grant administrator, said the project complements a related initiative to build a harborwalk connecting the town landing to Lewis Lake and Daw Park.
