A Lawrence landlord has been given a 30-day reprieve to pay off a city water bill and correct code violations or risk facing enforcement action. Don Henry owns two rooming houses, Valley Lodging South at 77 South Union St. and Valley Lodging North at 575 Common St. Henry owed close to $26,000 in overdue water bills for the two houses before the city recently shut off service to the South location for several hours. A management company representing the landlord paid $9,000 to the Department of Public Works, and Henry now has one month to clear the balance. A city inspection of the building also revealed nonoperating smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, for which Henry has been cited.
