The Satch Kerans Band will headline Rays of Hope, a benefit concert Thursday evening for Project Sunshine, a summer camp for homeless children living in hotels and motels in Danvers.
The event will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 at the Village Green on Route 1. Tickets are $20. A raffle will feature Red Sox tickets and other prizes.
The town’s Recreation Department started the eight-week program last summer, after hundreds of homeless families were placed into hotels or motels in town. The program, which costs about $30,000, received grants from Eastern and North Shore banks. last summer.
The concert, organized by the town’s diversity committee, is the first grass-roots effort to raise money for the camp.
Tom “Satch” Kerans, a former Danvers resident who lives in Rockport, promises to rock hard for a good cause. “We’re going to play straight-ahead rock ’n’ roll and get people dancing,” said Kerans, a special-education teacher at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School.
“I try never to say no to a benefit. . . . I grew up in Danvers, and it’s not a town where people think there could be homeless people, but there are.’’ he said.
Tickets may be purchased at the door, or in advance by sending an e-mail to sunnday@ gmail.com.
