Area residents have the chance to shop for a variety of used items when Winthrop holds its annual townwide yard sale on Saturday. The Winthrop Chamber of Commerce initiated the event three years ago to enable homeowners to gain maximum exposure for their yard sales and to promote Winthrop as a place to visit. Organizers also cite the environmental benefits of promoting the reuse of items. More than 50 homes — which will be marked by balloons — are participating in this year’s sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A map with all the addresses can be found at winthropchamber.com or picked up at the Winthrop Marketplace, 35 Revere St.. Also, from 1 to 3 p.m., the National Epilepsy Foundation will have a donation drop-off center at Woodside Ace Hardware, where furniture, clothing, toys, books, and other items in working condition will be accepted.
