“In the Acre: Celebrate! Create! Participate!,’’ the signature neighborhood event for the 2012 Discover Lowell series, will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday in the Acre neighborhood. The free family event will feature live demonstrations by Western Avenue Studios artists; an interactive teaching performance with Angkor Dance Troupe; performances by school choruses and local music groups; a container garden workshop with Mill City Grow; and food from Acre restaurants. The area’s newest public art project also will be unveiled on the steps of the North Common Amphitheater, located between Fletcher Street and Hancock Avenue: a new mural featuring the word “welcome” in several languages to reflect the diversity of the neighborhood.
