The School Board has approved spending a portion of the school budget surplus to provide wireless Internet service at the city’s three middle schools. The board unanimously approved taking about $280,000 of the $900,000 surplus for the wireless service. It also approved spending an additional $118,000 of the surplus to purchase two portable classrooms for Elm Street Middle School. The expenditures must now be approved by the Board of Aldermen.
