2013 budget approved at Town Meeting

Approval of a $107.1 million fiscal 2013 budget was among the actions taken by the annual Town Meeting that recently completed its business. The meeting, which took place in five sessions, also approved a $722,885 capital budget and authorized the town to borrow $895,000 to install a new elevator at the high school. Officials say $3 million was appropriated for improvements to town roads and parking lots; $605,000 to fund the purchase of a new fire engine; $180,000 to purchase a Fire Department brush truck; and $225,000 for technology improvements at the Fox Hill, Francis Wyman, and Pine Glen elementary schools. The meeting also approved the School Committee’s use of remaining money from an existing bond to install synthetic turf on the athletic field and a new track surface at Marshall Simonds Middle School, and appropriated $295,000 to replace lighting at that location.
