Hospital interns graduate from STRIDE program

Lowell General Hospital recently celebrated the graduation of four interns from The PLUS Company's STRIDE program, which allows adults with intellectual and physical disabilities to try out a variety of jobs at the hospital. During the 20-week program, participants perform duties for the food services, housekeeping, and environmental services departments. STRIDE stands for Sodexo Training and Recruitment for Individuals with Disabilities for Employment. The program was developed by Sodexo Inc., a food services and facilities management company; The PLUS Company, itself an acronym for People Learning Useful Skills, which advocates to empower people with disabilities; and LinkAbilities, a Nashua-based nonprofit that promotes public and private partnerships to address workforce challenges for employers and people with disabilities. Since its inception two years ago, 14 STRIDE participants have graduated.
