The city’s public schools recently gained national recognition for the quality of their music programming. The district was selected by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation to be on its 2012 list of Best Communities for Music Education. The foundation annually awards the designation to districts and schools across the country that commit to making music education a core part of their curriculums. This year, 176 schools and districts received the designation out of 237 that applied. The Lynn district was formally presented with its award at a May 24 ceremony at Breed Middle School.
